(Roswell, N.M.) Every October since 2005, the city of Roswell has celebrated America’s unique art form by showcasing world class jazz musicians from all over the United States in a colorful festival held at multiple locations.
In ten short years the Roswell festival has achieved widespread recognition from jazz fans and musicians nationwide.
This year’s festival will be take place October 19-23. Some exciting highlights include an unprecedented roster of 35 musicians performing at ten venues, 7 free events and lower ticket prices and discount package options.
Scheduled events include a concert by three of the country’s greatest jazz trombonists at Pecos Flavors Winery, Western swing sets featuring Austin’s Floyd Domino and Paul Glasse, an educational workshop with two big bands and a free Latin jazz concert at Roswell Museum and Art Center. Additional highlights include performances by festival co-founder Dr. Roger Dickerson, as well as renowned saxophonist Houston Person, a Saturday evening dinner jazz show at Roswell’s new HiQ venue, a New Orleans jazz style worship service at First United Methodist church and a special concert showcase with three of America’s greatest jazz pianists at Anderson Museum of Contemporary Art.
Special guest of honor this year is veteran New York tenor saxophonist Harry Allen. Allen regularly performs at jazz festivals and clubs worldwide and has performed with Rosemary Clooney, Ray Brown, Hank Jones, Frank Wess, Flip Phillips, Scott Hamilton, Harry “Sweets” Edison, Kenny Burrell, Herb Ellis, John Pizzarelli,Bucky Pizzarelli and the list goes on. He has recorded with Tony Bennett, Johnny Mandel, Ray Brown, Tommy Flanagan, James Taylor, Sheryl Crow, Kenny Barron, Dave McKenna and many others.
Ticket prices range from $10 for students to $20-25 for adults with additional discount package options available. They may be purchased online at roswelljazzfestival.org or at Roswell’s Stellar Coffee, 315 N. Main.
